Confidence and self-image are among the biggest factors for attaining success in your career. If you're in a position of leadership,
Mario Jannatpour, a real estate coach and author of the book
The Honest Real Estate Agent, has some ideas on how to improve your team members’ self-esteem and snuff out doubt.
“The ‘law of attraction’ in our business is about attracting clients who want to work with us because they like us, trust us, and value our expertise,” Jannatpour says. “When we feel good about ourselves with a high level of self-confidence, we are unstoppable.”
One way to boost confidence is by listening to positive audio content, he says. Whether it’s while you’re exercising or driving, carve out 30 minutes a day for business and personal development audiobooks or podcasts. Audible is his app of choice for audio content.
Jannatpour has two recommendations you can pass on to your team:
Take Charge of Your Life(Nightingale-Conant, 1986), by Jim Rohn, which is a classic in personal development, and
The Real Estate Sales Secret: What Top Real Estate Listing Agents Do Today to Sell Tomorrow (Matt Parker LLC, 2015), by Matt Parker, who is a successful listing agent in the Seattle area.
Jannatpour’s own book is also available through the Audible app.
Another way to build confidence is by taking care of yourself, he says. Take time for quiet learning and reflection. Eat right, exercise at least 30 minutes a day—even if it’s taking a walk—and get enough sleep. Stress can lead to negativity and erode one’s self-image. “We get so busy with business—meeting clients, showing properties, hosting open houses, giving listing presentations, and writing offers—that we forget to take care of ourselves,” Jannatpour says. “It's so simple but it works.”
